Next SocialJune 12, 2012. 7:30pm - Venue: ANZA Club at 3 West 8th Ave.

Alastair Ferries has prepared a quiz. He'll show four sets of 8 slides from four multi-day trips within 3 hrs of Vancouver. The person who figures out the most areas correctly wins a prize. Between each set are a couple of BC animal photos. In the case of a tie, the person who identified the most animals correctly, wins. While Alastair grades the responses his friend Marek Labecki will show slides from a recent climb of Mt. Judge Howay and a few other challenging exploits in our mountains. Come out and test your local geography knowledge!

Alastair Ferries grew up in West Vancouver and did some local hiking in his teens. He spent too many years working as a cook in mining camps, and although this provided money for trips, they were geared more towards hedonistic pursuits. Eight years ago, after starting work at UBC Library, (in order to be closer to family) he started hiking on the weekends. He really enjoys the adventure of selecting mountains from maps, and then organizing attempts of them. He's a frequent organizer of club trips for the North Shore Hikers, the ACC and the BCMC.

Marek Labecki was born and grew up in Poland, where he did a few backpacking trips to the local mountains. After his move to Vancouver in 1991, he developed a serious interest in mountaineering and rock climbing and has been exploring the Costal Mountains and the Cascades ever since. He's been member of The North Shore Hikers for 14 years, and two years ago also joined BCMC. Many of the trips he's taken part in have been documented on his website
