Membership Benefits

Membership in the club permits people to take part in the many programs offered, from time to time, by the club.  The programs are led by fellow members, acting in a sort of mentor capacity.  While they are not professional guides, they have a lot of valuable information and experience to share.

Members also receive the monthly BCMC newsletter, and, every second year, a copy of The BC Mountaineer.  The newsletter contains topical information about club events, wilderness news, trip schedules, and trip reports.  The BC Mountaineer is a journal of club and member trips throughout the province, and around the world.

In addition, members of the BCMC are entitled to the following:

  • 10% off all day passes and memberships at both the Vancouver and the Coquitlam locations of Cliffhanger Climbing Gyms
  • 10% off all 3-month and 12-month passes at The Edge Climbing Centre in North Vancouver.
  • 10% off all scheduled instructional programs (to a maximum of $25 savings) at the Canada West Mountain School.  Members will also receive a discount off any custom courses - the discount to vary based on the nature of the program and number of people.  Interested students should contact the school and let them know that they are BCMC members.

We're also looking into other benefits for club members...

Membership Types

New members join the BC Mountaineering Club as "Associate" members.  Associate members are converted to "Active" members 2 years after joining, or after participating in 2 club trips.  Active members have voting rights at the club's Annual General Meeting, and may be members of the club Executive.  "Couple" memberships are available for either Associate or Active members.  Couples, who must be sharing an address, pay a reduced rate.

Also available are "Youth" memberships, for those 18 or under, "Life" memberships, and "Senior" memberships, for those who are 65+ and have been Active members for over 25 years.  The Club Executive also occasionally extends Honorary membership to distinguished members.

Non-Members

The BC Mountaineering Club allows non-members to participate in most club trips, and to attend the monthly meetings, or socials, of the club.  We do limit non-members to attending two trips from the club schedule, after which they are encouraged to join the club for further participation.
