Indian Pipe
_Indian Pipe
Description

This beautiful parasite was emerging in early June on the summit plateau of The Squaw. I only realized later that the dark brown stalks are last year's fruiting bodies. According to Wikipedia, Indian Pipe is a parasite of a fungus, which is in a symbiotic relationship with a tree. So, ultimately, the Indian Pipe gets its energy from photosynthesis.
