Four Canadians, two Kiwis, two dogs (Zephyr & Taiger), three boats and two hundred pounds of camera equipment on a 63 day mission – it was always going to be a mighty test of endurance, determination and friendship. But beyond the swarming mosquitoes, technical challenges and physical hardship, what they didn’t expect was the impact of the stories from one First Nations family. This chance encounter introduced them to people so tightly tied to the land and the river that they live on, and the discovery that all of it is under threat from mining. A boys-own adventure turns into a mission to truly discover the secrets of the north and show the world why some places are worth preserving. Trailerhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=... Read more

Spearhead Hut Soiree and Facebook Page

https://bcmc.ca/m/news/view/Spearhead-Hut-Soiree-and-Facebook-Page

https://bcmc.ca/m/news/view/Spearhead-Hut-Soiree-and-Facebook-Page

It's now an all-ages event with Food Trucks and a well-stocked silent auction (cruiser bike, an autographed snowboard, gear from Arcteryx, G3, Sugoi, passes from Cypress, Grouse and the Hive climbing Centre and more). You can bid on a chance for your kids to have a ride to school with their friends in "Knuckles" a NSR rescue vehicle or win a picnic in the mountains - with helicopter transport to your picnic spot.
Kids (of all ages...) can try on rescue gear and have their picture taken with Nan the Rescue dog.
There will be two acoustic performers, a choir and then a great band, and the emcee is Bal Brach from CBC.
Tickets are available at Ticketzone (listed under RescueFest).
The only way to reduce the number of rescue calls on the North Shore is through education, so we'll have the NSR rescue trucks, AdventureSmart, North Shore Emergency Management, the Fire Department and a few others joining in.The long-term goal is to establish sustainable funding so all proceeds go to the Tim Jones Legacy Fund.
Before things get too hectic, they want to get a jump on what will surely be a long, hot and busy summer. North Shore Rescue has proudly provided an important lifesaving service to the public for the past 50 years.

They were inspired to make the film after joining BCMC member Karl Ricker on his annual survey of Wedgemount Glacier.

"We love hiking and exploring the mountains here in BC but when we realized the scale of the problems facing our home we knew we had to something"

After beginning their research these 3 learned that climate change is having devastating impacts in BC and they decided to go all in on this project. They will be meeting with experts who best understand the threats facing salmon populations, overall ecosystems, power generation and local industry in this province. The MELT team plans to drive across BC working with scientists in the field and talking to the people who are being affected, to find out what's really going on here.

Before hitting the road this summer they need to finish raising money to produce MELT. Check out their Indiegogo if you want to learn more about the project or support them!
