This weekend course will equip you to do most of the trips in Scrambles in Southwest British Columbia by Matt Gunn. Be sure to read pages 9 through 23 in this book as they cover a lot of what you need to know.

Day One:

Morning

• Hike in

• Set up camp

Afternoon Skills Practice

• Walking on snow

• Using an ice axe

• Putting on crampons

• Self-arrest

• Basic climbing techniques

• Managing rock fall hazard

• Dealing with exposure

Evening Discussion

• Choosing a destination (conditions, weather, time, people)

• Being responsible for your own safety

• Dealing with emergencies

• Time management

• Constant re-assessment

• Route planning

• Leaving no trace

Day Two

Put everything together and go for a summit!
