Trip Description

Minimum 8 participants needed to proceed.  Please only sign up if you are 100% committed to attending.

Two days of theory and practical practice on the essential knowledge to construct a variety of haul systems which can be used for glacier rescue when ski touring or mountaineering, or for rock rescue applications.   Note that this does not cover the anchor building or full rescue scenarios (see Anchoring - Basics/Intermediate and Rescue Basics/Intermediate  for those practice sessions).  

 

Location

  • Jan 25th - Mt. Seymour (Kiosk at North end of parking lot)
  • Jan 26th - Mt. Seymour (Kiosk at North end of parking lot

*Location subject to sufficient snow on Dinky Peak to build safe snow anchors

Minimum Equipment

  • Harness
  • Helmet
  • Suitable clothing for the weather (potentially all day in the rain)
  • Webbing (1” or 9/16”),  min 6m
  • Cord  (7 or 8mm), min 6m
  • Non-lock biners, min 6
  • locking biners, min 4, more recommended
  • 1 pulley (2 recommended, three is better)
  • 3 prusiks suitable for the rope you have 
  • 1 Rope (>30M length, 7 – 11mm diameter)
  • Belay/Rappel device

Prerequisites

 

  • Knot skills.  Must be able to tie Figure 8, Clove Hitch, Prusik, and Water Knot 100% reliably unassisted 

 

Additional Notes:

- Event is open to guests of BCMC members who would like to experience a group practice session before joining the BCMC.  

- This is a structured group practice session with no cost for attending.
