Trip Description

Bikepacking The Sea to Sky Trail

The Sea to Sky Trail is a 100-kilometer multi-use trail between Squamish and Pemberton with a handful of campsites along the way. The majority of the route follows maintained trails, gravel, and paved roads -- with some steep, punchy climbs. Note, however, that there is a relatively short stretch that requires riding on the highway.

I completed the Sea to Sky Trail last year, biking it from Squamish to Pemberton and back again over three days. It was a lot. This time around, the plan is to bike the route from Squamish to the end of Gord's Garden (just past Whistler) and then back to Squamish again. We will likely camp at the Cal Cheak campgrounds on both nights.

Bikepacking.com has a primer on bikepacking if you're just discovering the activity: https://bikepacking.com/bikepacking-101/

Bikepacking.com also has an overview of the route, and the comments section includes several trip reports: https://bikepacking.com/routes/bikepacking-sea-to-sky-trail/

Logistics planning (e.g., how to get there and return, where to camp) will occur with participants.

Required:

- Given the terrain of this route, a rigid mountain bike is ideal, though experienced riders may decide to use a gravel bike. Road bikes and e-bikes are not appropriate.

- The 10 essentials

- All equipment necessary to fix a flat tire

- Camping gear (e.g., sleeping bag, tent, bivy, food, water, meal prep. equipment)

- A high-level of cycling-specific fitness

Selection will be based on responses to the Questions for Participants
