Jim Kelly Peak is an unofficial peak in the Coquihalla Summit Recreation Area. While I have never done it, I have been told that it is an easy to moderate scramble with some potential for rock fall. The approach is one of the best in the West Coast. Participants will be entertained with a montage of blueberry leaves turning into their fall colours. I am open to having a go on the nearby Illal Mountain, but not Coquihalla Mountain herself, as I would like a semi casual day.
Participants are encourage to bring a helmet. Also, plan for rain and cooler temperatures. Otherwise, you are expected to have some experience in managing yourself in an alpine environment. Feel free to ask questions about the route and expectations for the day. A writeup on the route and sharable GPX tracks can be found, as usual, on Stephen Song's website: https://stevensong.com/coastal-interior-bc/bc-cascades/jim-kelly-peak/
Jim Kelly Peak is named after Jim Kelly Creek. Sadly, all knowledge of who Jim (James) Kelly was seems to be lost in the mists of time.
