Trip Description

Route Reference & Stats:

  • AllTrails: Macdonald Peak via Radium Lake

  • Main Objective (Macdonald Peak): ~21 km, ~1,500 m elevation gain

  • Optional Extension (Mount Webb): For those who have the time, energy, and desire, we can optionally add Mount Webb from the col (+2 km, +150 m gain).

  • Total Estimated Duration: 11–12 hours

Logistics & Timeline:

  • 5:00 AM: Meetup and carpool organization at Coquitlam Central Station (Park & Ride). Drive time is approximately 1 hour 20 minutes.

  • 6:20 AM: Group convergence at the Radium Lake Trailhead (Chilliwack Lake Road).

  • 6:30 AM: Feet on trail. We will maintain a steady, moderate pace through the forest to conserve energy for the upper alpine sections.

Wildfire Contingency Policy:

  • Smoke/Weather Cancellation: Given mid-August is peak wildfire season, this trip will be cancelled 24 hours prior if the smoke forecast (AQHI) or thunderstorm risk poses an unacceptable safety hazard.

Gear (Summer Scramble Packing List): This is a long, demanding alpine day trip with significant exposure on the final ridge. You will bring:


  • Water filter/treatment system (No reliable water sources after Radium Lake)

  • 3L of water/electrolytes or adjust based on your needs

  • Sun and bug protection (Hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, bug net/repellent)

  • Sturdy hiking boots or approach shoes with aggressive tread
