We will meet at St David's to carpool and drive up to the Shannon Creek FSR to the upper gate. This will allow us more time without worrying about the Gondola schedule.
We will hike to the Stadium Glacier Zone then boot pack up to the ridgeline. There should still be snow but this heat may mix things up a bit. Crampons/microspikes and ice axe required (I have witnessed falls here and its no joke).
There is a 10m easy 5th class slab to scale (the famous Pink Slab) followed by scrambling around to the backside of Sky Pilot, where further exposed scrambling takes us to the summit.
Following the descent, with the option to rappel some sections, we will evaluate time and energy to make a call on climbing Co Pilot.
After a bit of route finding to the North Gully, begins a more serious ascent. About 200m of exposed no-fall-zone low 5th class climbing. Descent is via 3 mandatory rappels.
Required gear:
Helmet
Crampons / microspikes
Ice axe
Harness
Rappel device
Required abilities:
Knowledge and experience with the above equipment.
Endurance for the day. This will be a moderate paced hike - because I am not fast! :-)
Confidence on consequential terrain
I have a rope appropriate for all of the rappels. A second rope may make things faster.
I can takeĀ 3 others in my truck. If others have a suitable 4x4 then we can take more people, to be discussed in the planning forum.
Weather may require cancellation of the climb but not necessarily the hike.
