Day hike (through forest and snow) into a scramble to the Sugarloaf Mountain Summit.
Meeting at St Davids Sunday at 6.30am to arrive at base by around 8am. The trailhead can only be accessed by a high clearance SUV or truck, so ideally we can all fit in one car and make it up or could take 2 cars and do a relay for that final section. I do not have a car.
High 3rd class scrambling. Approx. 1200m elevation over 16km (round trip) that should take 8-9 hours to complete. I'll be bring a 30m rope and anchor material in case anyone requires rappel/belaying. Not looking to set any FKTs, there is some significant elevation going up especially towards the summit. We will stay as a group and travel at the pace of the slowest person. Looking to make this an enjoyable day.
Suggested: - Sunglasses - skiing poles - Approach shoes/sneakers
This is a team objective, so weight and resources will be shared where appropriate. As with all outdoor trips, this trip is entirely weather dependent. If weather is looking bad, the trip will be cancelled or rescheduled. I will be bring a small first aid kit. Each person will contribute to fuel costs as set by the driver.
