Trip Description

Tenquille Lake overnight with a hike/easy scramble up Mount Barbour

The plan is:

- 8th September: Drive up from Vancouver on Tuesday 8th, approaching from the Hurley and then branch 12. How close we get to the trailhead depends on the vehicle we have (and the driver!). Hike to the lake, camp.

- 9th September: Hike/scramble Mount Barbour, then back down to the car, drive back home.

Mount Barbour is described as an easy, unexposed scramble (by comparison, I expect it to be similar to trips like Brandywine Mountain, Locomotive, Rohr, Mount Price). There's a description of it here: https://besthikesbc.ca/hiking-mount-barbour-near-pemberton/, and excellent up to date article about the area in general at https://happiestoutdoors.ca/tenquille-lake-trail/.

Overall distances and elevation depends on how close we can drive to the trailhead. But approximately:

- Day 1: 6-10km distance, 700-1000m elevation, with overnight packs.
- Day 2: 12km distance, 700m elevation, without overnight packs, plus 6-10km hiking out with overnight packs.

My hiking speed is pretty average - I'm probably on the moderate/slow side of the times listed in https://besthikesbc.ca/, and I'd prefer to go with people who enjoy going with the pace of the group, and enjoy the journey. Hiking together is also a safety issue, since we will be in grizzly country. All that said, day 2 is a longish day with a long drive back to Vancouver at the end of it, so we would need to keep up a reasonable pace.

You should be self-sufficient in terms of hiking and camping gear and have at least some experience of overnight trips. I have a couple of camping spots reserved that can each fit 2 small tents, but we may need to book more, depending on how many people we get.

The trip will only go ahead if weather and smoke conditions are good.
