Schedule

This is a 4 day course, from Friday to Monday.  Each day starts at 9 AM and ends at 5 PM.  There will also be an evening scenario, usually on the 2nd day, which will end around 10 PM. 

Course content

Learn the new stuff, refresh the classics, renew the certification, and get back out there! Topics include: 
  • Decision Making in Medical Emergencies
  • Leadership and Group Dynamics
  • Scene Management, Communication and Evacuation
  • Medical  Emergencies, including
    • Cardiac Emergencies
    • Respiratory Emergencies
    • Anaphylaxis
    • Pain Management
    • Diabetic Emergencies
    • Neurological Emergencies (Strokes and Seizures)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR Updates
  • Chest, Abdominal and Pelvic Injuries
  • Head and Spinal Injuries
  • Major Hemorrhage Management
  • Bone, Muscle and Joint Injuries
    • Assessing and Reducing Dislocations
  • Wound Care
  • Environmental Emergencies (Hot, Cold, Wet)
  • Extended Care in Austere Environments
  • Workplace Considerations

There is also a 4-6 hour online component.  

Certification
Successful completion of this training leads to the following certifications:
  • Red Cross Wilderness First Responder
  • Basic Life Support (BLS / formerly CPR-HCP)
