More of an exploratory rather than mountaineering type of a trip but if you like discovering new places and enjoy off-road biking and a little adventure, this is right for you!
We will drive to Squamish where we’ll set off on our bikes following Stawamus and Indian Rivers, the latter finally emptying into Indian Arm. Thus we will ‘sneak’ back into Vancouver from behind the Chief and through the back door.
The trip requires a bicycle with fatter tires as the logging road is good but all gravel. Full suspension bike is NOT required. The length of the biking portion is ~40km with a high point at 810m of elevation. My estimate is that the biking portion will take about 7 hrs.
Once we reach Indian Arm two options are available:
1. We will prearrange to be picked up by a motor boat and this will cost around $50 per person. In this case this will be a day trip.
2. We will camp at Granite Falls where we’ll swap car keys and bikes for kayaks with 2nd half of our group which has paddled up Indian Arm to meet us and to continue to Squamish by bikes. We will finish the trip by kayaking back to Deep Cove the next morning.
Which option we choose will largely depend on the group’s adventure spirit and the willingness to go through this logistical nightmare.
