Trip Description

Due to workload the Summer Course has been changed from a week long pay format.  Portions of the content will be posted as individual weekend trips (no pay training).  This posting will be for 2 days focused on learning the basics of leading on a glacier.  More details will follow.

Prerequisites: previous climbing experience and strong knot skills.

Location: TBD  (most likely Anniversary Glacier)

Minimum Participation to Proceed:  8 Participants

Minimum Equipment:

  • Harness
  • Helmet
  • Suitable clothing for the weather (potentially all day in the rain)
  • Webbing (1” or 9/16”),  min 6m
  • Cord  (7 or 8mm), min 6m (tech cord is acceptable)
  • Non-lock biners, min 6
  • locking biners, min 4, more recommended
  • 1 pulley (2 recommended)
  • 3 prussics suitable for the rope you have
  • 1 Rope (>30M length, 8 – 11mm diameter)
  • Belay/Rappel device (if you own two types, bring both)
  • Snow picket (s)
  • Snow shovel
  • Ice Axe
  • Ice Screw
  • Crampons
  • Suitable cord (5mm to 8mm) for making texas prussiks.
  • Suitable summer mountaineering camping equipment (stove/pots/sleeping bag/sleeping pad/tent/backpack.
