Dates: July 1-July 4 (arrive back in Vancouver early July 5)
Planning a long weekend backpacking trip to Strathcona Provincial Park. I've never been to this area of the island and very keen to explore it! We'll be tackling two different areas of the park: Forbidden Plateau and Elk River
Forbidden Plateau: Mount Albert Edward, Mount Frink and Castlecrag Mountain (possibly Jutland Mountain) Elk River: Landslide and Iceberg Lake
Itinerary: July 1: 6:15am ferry at Horseshoe Bay, 1.5 hour drive to Paradise Meadows Trailhead, 10km hike to Circlet Lake to camp. (possibly day hike to Jutland Mountain - 9.8km, 758m gain)
July 2: Day hike from camp and summit Mount Albert Edward, Mount Frink and Castlecrag. 19.5km 1360m gain. Night 2 camping at Circlet Lake
July 3: Pack up camp, hike out back to Paradise Meadows Trailhead. Drive 1h 45min to Elk River Trailhead. Either hike to Butterwort Creek Campground (6km) or Gravel Flats Campground (9km).
July 4: Hike to Landslide lake (4km) + Iceberg lake (additional 1.5km) in the morning, hike out back to trailhead, catch 10:40pm ferry back to Horseshoe Bay
Required: Backpacking equipment, 10 essentials Currently, I have a ferry reservation for one car + 5 people. This trip could be 10 people if there's interest + can get a second ferry reservation.
Campsites: All campsites have bear caches + $10/night for the backpacking permit
We'll split the cost of ferry reservation + mileage
We will finalize all details once the trip selection closes. Selection will be based on responses to the Questions for Participants and on prior, relevant BCMC trip participation. Can't wait to do this trip!!
