A two day trip to Mount Baker following the Coleman Deming Route to the Summit.
https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/washington/mount-baker-standard-summit-route
Detailed planning is tbc and will happen via whatsapp group or email. Here's a rough outline of the trip:
Saturday 29th 06:00 - Leave Vancouver. Carpools to be arranged.
09:00 - Arrive @ Heliotrope Ridge Trailhead. Parking Lot Breakfast. Gear Check. Briefing with full team.
15:00 - Arrive Black Buttes (2200m), pitch camp.
Sunday 30th 03:00 - Alpine Start
09:00 - Summit
13:00 - Arrive @ Black Buttes
Depending on what the group wants, we either take a break and then pack camp and head for the cars, or spend another night camping. Might be nice to drop to a lower elevation camp if we are staying another night.
It's a little late in the season, and so snow bridges on the route are potentially weak or already gone. We are not guaranteed to summit.
Camp: Black Buttes @ 2200m.
This is the higher of the two usual camps on this route, meaning it is slightly colder, more exposed and is unlikely to have running water. The benefit is that it saves us time getting up to the glacier, so that we have the longest window to cross snow bridges while they are frozen and at their strongest.
Preference will be given to members who have climbed this route in the past and can bring some 1st hand knowledge, and then to those who have completed relevant glacier travel courses.
