Three of us hiked Mount Rohr on a perfect September Friday. After some negotiation we decided to drive up on the Thursday night, camp, and hike the mountain the next day. We camped at Nairn Falls, lulled to sleep by the soothing sounds of the 99. We were a bit leisurely in the morning and didn't get started on the trail until after 9. I parked just off the highway but the FSR is very benign for the first kilometre, and to my eternal shame, a couple of Evos got further up the road than us.
The colours at Rohr Lake were really spectacular and it was hard to tear ourselves away. After the lake, there's much more of a trail than the last time I was here but we still managed to go off route a couple of times and clambered over more boulders than strictly necessary. We only met two other groups, including a British couple on vacation who were hiking the mountain as a backup because Joffre Lakes is closed. They chose wisely.
On the way back down we found a gang of ptarmigan starting to change into their winter outfits. Incredible camouflage, they can be a metre away and you just can't see them.
We got back to the car at about 7 and back to Vancouver by 10pm. Thanks to Britta and Geonwoo for being great trail company <3.
