How to Renew your Membership

We have introduced some changes to membership renewals, and the new website is following some of the informal rules that were "forgotten" by many of us; so here are some guidelines to help you understand how Membership renewals work (you can refer to the Club Constitution for the official rules):

  • Annual dues are payable prior to your joining date - that is the day and month of first joining the club, or October 1 if you were a member prior to October 1, 2012.
  • If you are late paying your dues, you temporarily lose your Member privileges, which includes:
    • voting rights at any general meeting of the Club
    • name on the membership list accessible by other members
    • receiving club publications - printed or electronic.
    • access to the 'member-portion of the website
  • Your Membership will cease if you don't renew within 12 months. During those 12-months, Members can renew their membership, effective on their join date (not renewal date) but cannot sign-up for a new (first time) membership. A person whose membership has ceased (after the 12 months) must submit a new membership application to rejoin the club as a new member.

Note: A former Active member who applies to rejoin the club (as a new member) may apply to the executive committee to be reinstated as an Active member based on having been an active member previously.

There are 3 ways to renew your membership

  1. Renew Online
    Fast and easy: It only takes one minute of your time
    • Click here to log in and renew online.
    • Click on the 'Renew your Membership' button on the top right, or if the button isn't visible, click on 'My Account' at the top right and in the 'Membership' section, click on the 'Renew your Membership' link.

Note: in renewing your membership online you will have to agree to the current BCMC Waiver if you have not already done so in the past. All Members must have a signed version of the current waiver in place - it is an obligation of the club to our Insurer.

  1. Renew via Mail
    The process involves:
    • Download a membership and waiver form. (in PDF format)
    • Print out and complete all sections of the forms.
    • Send the completed forms together with a cheque payable to the 'BC Mountaineering Club' to this address:
      • The Membership Chair, B.C.M.C.
        P.O. Box 2674
        Vancouver, B.C.
        V6B 3W8
    • Alternatively...
    • Either look for a renewal form in the Fall Newsletter, or click here and request a membership form be sent to you, then
    • Complete all sections of the forms, and send them, together with a cheque, to the above address.
  2. Renew 'in Person' at our Social Meetings
    • Meetings are held at 7:30 pm on the second Tuesday of every month (except July and August) at the newly renovated ANZA Club at #3 West, 8th Avenue, Vancouver. Click here for more information on the next meeting.
    • Meetings are free and everyone is welcome! A slide show and light snacks are included.
    • There is a membership and information table set up and our volunteers will be happy to answer all your questions and will take care of your renewal.
