Participant Information

Hello everyone,
Our first group of 8 has been confirmed but I now have until Friday to try and confirm a second group of 8.  The paypal link is available, so course signup will be based on first members to pay for the course.  Singup cutoff extended to Friday, November 14.

We've scheduled a number of AST-1 and AST-2 courses this year through the Canada West Mountain School where members save over 20% on courses.  We are finalizing the other dates and will send out more information in the coming weeks; however, the signup cutoff date for this AST-1 course is fast approaching (November 12 November 14).  While the pricing and dates are different, please find the actual course description from Canada West here.

Key Information

Course Date: December 13-14 (start time tbd)

Signup cutoff: November 12 November 14

Cost: $178.50* with tax (regularly $220 plus GST)

Group Size: 8**

*If the snowpack is less than ideal, students will be required to purchase a backcountry access pass for Whistler ($55.65) for the second day only.

** If there is enough interest, we can set up a second or even a third group of 8 Per group.

I. Itinerary/ Requirements

The 2 day AST-1 course will be hosted up at Mount Seymour, and participants must be intermediate to advanced skiers.  participants are required to bring their own avalanche gear which can be rented from MEC for $25 for the entire weekend.  Backcountry skis (AT or Telemarking) or a split board with skins are required (skis/ skins can be rented from MEC also).  Snowboarders can also join using snowshoes; however, please indicate in the response.  Participants are responsible for their own transportation, and must bring enough food/ water and clothing to be outside for the entire day.

Groups will meet at Mount Seymour (start time to be determined) for both days; however, if the snowpack is less than ideal, the second day will be held up at Whistler.  In the event the second day must be held at Whistler, participants will be required to purchase a Backountry Access Pass ($55.65).

II. Registration

Upon signing up you will be added to the waiting list.  Once on the wait list, you will have the opportunity to pay for the course.  Once you have paid for the course, you will be added to the confirmed list.  Please note, priority is given to members who pay first.

Please also note that the signup/ payment cutoff is November 12.  In the event we do not have eight confirmed (and paid for participants) the course will be cancelled.  Once the trip list has been confirmed on November 12, I cannot guarantee that we will be able to refund you in the event you must cancel.  BCMC Course cancellation can be found here near the bottom of the page.

If you have any questions or concerns about this course or any other upcoming courses, please don't hesitate to contact me either by phone, or by email (rsimzer at gmail dot com).
