Participant Information

This course is for up to six BCMC members with backcountry ski touring experience looking to obtain glacier travel and companion rescue skills.  Course will be held January 17 and 18.

Note 1: if this course is not fully booked, i.e. 6 paid participants, by Friday December 19th then this course will be cancelled and refunds will be provided to those that paid.

Base Course Fee:    $225.39   (Special BCMC Members price, includes GST).
Extra cost of $56 for the lift access fee for day-2 at Whistler/Blackcomb.

Course Objectives: the Canada West Mountain School [CWMS], the leading mountaineering school on the West Coast, is offering to run this course with the first day in Squamish and the second day at Whistler/Blackcomb.  Having the first day in Squamish is considered ideal as this day is mainly spent going over the technical rope rescue systems.  CWMS has found that doing this in a snow-free, warmer environment, makes for better learning retention.  For day-2 the group will focus on Glacier Travel skills by going to Blackcomb Mountain and traveling on the glacier while working on glacier travel skills.  Please note that each participant will be required to obtain their own lift pass.

Equipment: this CWMS two day course will include all technical equipment and guiding/instruction services by an ACMG Ski or Mountain Guide. Please note that participants will have to supply their own ski touring equipment, avalanche safety equipment, food and transportation.
On-line Registration Process: once you register online, your name is automatically placed on the "Request List" for the organizer to process. Once the Organizer approves your registration, your name is placed on the "Waiting List" until your payment has been received either by cheque or PayPal/Credit Card (see below).  After payment has been received, your name will be placed on the "Confirmed List" and a confirmation email will be sent.  Note that course registration priority is on a first-come-first-served basis and your participation is NOT guaranteed until you have paid and your name is on the "Confirmed List"... so it's important that you pay the course fee ASAP after being notified that you are on the "Waiting List".
Payment: PayPal/Credit Card payment is preferred and can be made through the BCMC website (click on the "Pay Now" button on the course description page -- You must be logged in on the website and your name must be on the "Waiting List" for the button to be visible on the course page). Alternatively, cheques can be made payable to British Columbia Mountaineering Club and mailed to PO Box 2674, Vancouver, BC V6B 3W8; Important Note: you MUST make arrangements with the organizer to keep a spot open for you while your cheque is in transit or your place may be taken by someone else. Cancellation fees may apply in case of a cancellation by a participant.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the course organizer for additional information... thank you.
