Participant Information

The plan will be to access the Blackcomb backcountry at the East Col, hot foot it over to Decker and do one or two laps on Decker.

Possible routes include: 9th Hole, Decker Glacier or possibly a bit farther across the spearhead time permitting.

If the conditions are appropriate we will consider skiing black diamond terrain so please consider your skiing ability when joining this trip.  See the 2nd edition Baldwin Whistler Blackcomb map for route info.

You will need a lift pass to upload on the lifts.  A backcountry pass can be purchased from the WB ticket office for $56 plus tax.  A normal Day Pass, EDGE Card or Seasons Pass will also work.

ALL participants MUST have the following equipment:

Crevasse rescue gear maybe required - I'll confirm if we need this gear closer to the trip date.  If so you'll need: Harness, Ice Axe, Crevasse Rescue Kit. We'll also need a rope, picket or two, ice screws (of which I can supply).

Beacon, Probe & Shovel

AST-1 or higher training

AT/telemark ski or splitboard setup (including skins)

Appropriate clothing for being out in the elements all day

Enough food and water to remain on the move for most of the day

(trip organizer will carry the following items: first aid kit, GPS/Compass/Map)

This will involve a long day, with the potential for some objective dangers. Trip will only "go" with a decent weather forecast.

Please consider NOT seeking to jhis trip unless you have conducted your own research into the route, and compared that with your own experience, fitness level and skill.

Please update your BCMC Account Profile with your emergency contact information. To do that you have to login on the website, click the "My account" button at top right, then click on "edit profile information", then select the "private information" tab and enter your emergency contact information -- this info will stay in your profile and is made available to a trip organizer automatically -- it saves time at the meeting point.

N.B. If you have previously "bailed" less than a day before the start of, or been a "no show" for, one of the trip organizer's previous trips, you need not apply to join this one - you will not get a response.
