Participant Information

This traverse will start at the backcountry access gate at the top of the lifts on Blackcomb traversing past Decker, Tremor, MacBeth, Overlord, Fissile, and then exiting via the Whistler downhill area.

We'll be purchasing backcountry lift tickets $56 + GST or you can use your Edge card spring pass if you have one. They want to see skins, beacon, shovel, probe, and cell phone and you have to sign a disclaimer. The plan is to arrive at guest services by 8AM and catch the first lift at 8:30. With the forecast being clear for Friday there's a good chance that Glacier chair will open before 9:30 hopefully followed closely by the Showcase Tbar. We'll park in lot 4 which is the free lot but involves a bit of a walk to the lifts.

We did it in 10 hours last time but lift opening times delayed the start until after 10AM. Total distance is around 38km.

I've attached a track showing the route from the top of the Showcase Tbar to the base of Symphony Chair in gpx and html formats. Click here to open a visual map of the route.

Bring sunglasses, sunscreen, and headlights. If you have ski crampons bring them as it may be icy in the morning. Less weight equals greater speed so keep your pack as light as possible.

Will give preference to skiers that I know with a proven speed and skiing ability.

Thanks to Marie Burle (and Richard So and Sharon Bader via Matt Gunn's South Coast Backcountry Touring group) for providing the info on the Symphony Chair exit from the Singing Pass Trail. This will be a new variation for exiting via the Whistler downhill area.
