***** UPDATE *****

The last avalanche forecast this afternoon revealed snow bounding extremely slowly due to the cold temperature and an underlying rain crust. So the plan will be dictated by the conditions and it is likely that we will stay on mellow slopes.

A friend of mine and myself are going so people willing to join us last minute are welcome: the trip is happening even if nobody has signed up. Just text or call me and be at Taylor for 7:30 am.

***** END OF UPDATE *****

The recent snowfall brought around 50 cm of new snow on the local mountains. By Thursday, it should be pretty well bounded. The forecast is for good weather until the evening.

I suggest a skin up to the top of Hollyburn and if things look good some laps on the backside of it. Then, if the weather and conditions still look good, we could go to the South Peak of Mount Strachan and ski out from there by the back side that goes around and ends up at the bottom of the ski resort.

This is likely to take quite a good chunk of the day: I am not planning on a 1.5 h/1 quick lap and go home kind of day. But how long the day is will depend on people's availability and how good the conditions are. Note also that this is not meant to be a beginner trip - I am explicit as the easy objective can easily bring confusion on this. While I plan on skiing at a relax pace and wait for everyone to make it a fun and casual day, the trip is suitable for people with previous touring experience and able to have fun on the steeper slopes of the backside of Hollyburn.

Please make sure you test your beacon batteries before coming and bring warm layers: it will be cold and a bit windy.

 ***** What to bring:

- Beacon, shovel, probe
- Headlamp: I do not intend on coming back at night, but days are short and this is an important emergency item
- Clothes to stay warm in a cold windy day
- Food and water
- A little first aid kit and navigation tools if you have them
