Trip Planning Questions

Are you available for most of the day if conditions are good or would you prefer making it a shorter outing?

If so, from what time to what time are you available?

Participant Information

The only reason I am so explicit about this not being a beginner day is that the objective can be a great beginner destination and I want to make sure everybody's expectations are similar so that all can enjoy the day.
I expect the people joining this trip to be able to skin up and ski down at a reasonable pace and have the experience and knowledge to make their own judgement about avalanche safety.

A friend and I will be checking the new snow. It should be a really great day with lots of new snow and good weather. However, be aware that the new snow is sitting on and not easily binding to various surfaces (see Avalanche Canada forecast). The avy forecast is considerable and it is possible that we might stick to very mellow slopes in the trees: it all will depend on what we find. I plan a conservative approach. Please be prepared to make your own evaluation to share with the group.

*****edit: People skiing today found a much more stable snowpack than yesterday. Things should actually be quite consolidated tomorrow thanks to the warmer temperatures of the past 24h*****

I plan on skiing most or all of the day if conditions are good, but if people are only available for part of the day, it should be easy to meet up later or split up early. Post your availability and we will make it work.

Please make sure you test your beacon batteries before coming and bring warm layers: it will be cold.

 ***** What to bring:

- Beacon, shovel, probe
- Headlamp: I do not intend on coming back at night, but days are short and this is an important emergency item
- Clothes to stay warm in a cold day
- Food and water
- A little first aid kit and navigation tools if you have them
