Trip Planning Questions

Are you aware of the dangers, knowledgeable and comfortable interacting with sketchy conditions in this type of terrain? Are you a strong with a shovel?

Participant Information

Freezing levels are up and down.  New snow and forecast strong southwest winds will continue to build reactive storm slabs. Moist and wet surface snow will weaken with warmer temperatures and rain at lower elevations.  It's a bit of a mess out there.

The plan is to take it easy and do some snow evaluation.  Bring your Avalanche Awareness book (Jamieson).  I've got a new bone saw and plan to dig a pit or two, take some temperatures, maybe jump a Rutschblock.  There should be a lot of interesting layers to observe.

The terrain around Oboe is a mix of simple and moderate.  There should be some good tree skiing off Oboe and Cowboy Ridge.  The idea is not to trigger anything, as well as putting some AST learnings into practice.  Bring a puffy in case there's some standing round during snow evaluation.

Must have minimum AST-1, tried and tested touring equipment, avalanche rescue gear, good attitude.  There may be low clouds so route finding skills are also important.

Wes has volunteered to drive so if you sign up and a ride he can help you out.  His number is on the planning forum.  I will be in WSL Saturday so I can't offer my customary shuttle service.  However, if you plan to leave Sunday afternoon we can work something out for sure.

Meet at Taylor Way Church at 6:25, or Creekside Guest Services for 8:00 to pick up slack country pass.  Should be good.
