Basic Mountaineering Skills Introduction

This is being offered as a series of sessions including two overnight trips.  Spacing the training over several weekends will allow time to absorb information and complete any assigned homework/reading.  No previous mountaineering experience is required.

Respond to the "trip planning questions" and describe your experience even if you have only done general hiking and backpacking.  Selection of participants is not based on order of registration.

Registration opens Monday, April 30th and closes 11:00pm Thursday, May 3rd.

Note: Dates to be finalized before participant selection:

  • 1 mid-week evening session... from 6:00 to 9:30pm
  • 1 Saturday or Sunday in May... on Mount Seymour, tentative May 26
  • 1 three-day weekend in early June...  will require taking a Friday off work, tentative June 1-3
  • 1 two-day weekend in June... tentative June 16-17

Prerequisites: a good level of fitness and previous overnight backpacking experience.
