Trip Planning Questions

Can you drive, how many passengers can you take and what type of car do you have

Are you prepared for a long, moderately fast paced hike to the summit, or would you prefer to go part way and enjoy the sun while waiting for the group.

Do you have an ice axe and do you know how to perform a self arrest.

Participant Information

The trail starts a couple of km off the highway to Pemberton, just behind the dirt bike track on the North side of the highway.  After a couple of km of old logging road the new trail climbs steadily 4500 feet to tree line and stunning views.  Beyond that we can expect to travel over snow and meadow to the final 1000 foot long ramp to the summit.  An ice axe is required if you want to go to the top as the final slope is about 25 degrees.  Good for a bum slide, but you need to be able to stop.  Overall the hike climbs about 6800 feet or 2.5 times the Grouse Grind so it is one of the longer trail hikes in the Lower Mainland.    However, there are places to stop and enjoy the view along the way if some folks prefer not to go all the way to the top.   Plan on hitting the trail around 8:00 am with a 2:00 pm turn around and a ten to twelve hour day.  It is outside the park so bringing a well behaved dog is fine, so long as it is fit.  It is likely that we will split the group into a fast paced and slower paced group to accommodate as many hikers as possible.   Start time at St Davids is 6:00 am.  Should be back around 9:00  pm or there about.
