Trip Planning Questions

Please describe your recent experience with glacier travel, crevasse rescue and snow camping.

Do you have valid travel documents that will allow you to easily cross the US border?

Are you willing and able to drive a vehicle there?

You must login in order to sign up online for one of the BCMC Trips. If you don't have a BCMC membership account then please obtain one.  If you'd prefer to learn more before joining then please join as a 30-day Guest member.   Some trips are BCMC members only.

Participant Information

A group size of 12 participants is the maximum allowed as per Mt Baker Wilderness regulations. Rope teams of 3-4 preferred.

Screening will be used to make sure you are prepared for such a trip. Preference will be given to 2018 graduates of the BCMC Intro to Mountaineering course.
This trip will be cancelled if the forecast is poor.

We will be meeting early on Saturday morning and travelling to a high base camp. Summit attempt in the wee hours on Sunday morning. Retreat to Base camp. Pack up and return by Sunday afternoon.

You must have recent experience in:
- Roped glacier travel
- Crevasse rescue
- Snow camping

Gear required:
- Crampons and ice axe
- Rope (may be able to share)
- Harness, helmet
- Crevasse rescue equipment
- Overnight camping gear and tent
- Headlamp/torch
- 10 essentials, other gear

Insurance:
STRONGLY CONSIDER trip insurance for the trip. Do you want to get bankrupt because you slipped and hurt your ankle?

Border:
You MUST have a valid passport or other travel document enabling you to cross the US border. Arrange your ESTA visa in advance to save time at the border if you need one.
Do NOT use the nexus lane unless everyone has a nexus card. Don't take fruit/vegetables across the border, it's not worth the hassle/risk - you can buy vegetables in the US easily, and no doubt you will enjoy the additional selection of food not available in Canada anyway.

Emergency Info:
Make sure your Emergency contact is up to date. You will need this to attend the trip.
