Participant Information

In the words of John Baldwin, "this is pleasant ridge and meadow terrain with good skiing in the surrounding basins, though the peaks here are somewhat rockier and more windswept than those farther W."

I have not skied in the Blowdown Creek Basin, but I was there this summer to explore the area. This area is full of beautiful meadows and open skiing. There is a lot of skiing potential, but the snow conditions need to be somewhat stable to mitigate risks. Additionally, we will be accessing a forest service road that is exposed to avalanche risk for long periods of time.

From the Duffey Lake Road (Hwy 99) turnoff to Blowdown Lake, it is approximately 16km with an elevation gain of 900 metres. Blowdown Lake probably offers the most pleasant place to camp, but as a group we can decide where we want to camp.

The Plan: Saturday - Drive up to Blowdown FSR and park cars where the snow starts. Ski to camping spot near Blowdown Lake. If time permits, do some more skiing. Sunday - ski & ski & ski.... Monday - ski out, grab a coffee & food. I'll definitely need coffee....

I'll be bringing my dog, Sofie.

Gear:  Avalanche gear (shovel, probe, transceiver); 10 essentials; winter camping gear (hopefully participants can be paired up to share gear)

Driving: Return driving distance from St David’s Church to the trailhead is 400 km. Based on BCMC driver reimbursement guidelines, please expect to pay between 35-50$. I can drive 3 people +dog
