Participant Information

No need to join a "pulley club" to learn about Pulleys and Mechanical Advantage Systems.

Pulley club

No prior experience required building mechanical advantage systems, just need to be eager to learn about them.

Where: Climbing gym at BCIT Burnaby Campus SE16 building (SE16 - 3700, Willingdon Ave, Burnaby, BC V5G 3H2)
When: 5:30pm until 7:30pm
Cost: $7 drop-in fee needs to be paid at the front desk

We will be using the small climbing gym located at the BCIT Burnaby Campus, please work out your pay parking and the drop-in fee before 5:30pm. I would like to start at 5:30pm if possible because the gym is only open until 7:30pm, that will only give us 2 hours to cover the material. Since the climbing gym is small, I will restrict the number of participants to a small group, if there are people on the waiting list and the event goes well, I will schedule another learning session later in the month or next month.

The objective will be to cover/learn the following:

  • Simple system
  • Compound system
  • Complex system
  • Use the "T" method to calculate the mechanical advantage of a system

Gear to bring:

  • Any pulleys you have or want to practice with
  • Locking and non locking carabiners you have
  • Some cord to make prusik knots with
  • A rope up to 60m or 70m long
  • Any other gear you want to practice with

( If you do not have the above gear, don't worry I will bring some extra gear, this will allow you to try out gear before purchasing gear )
