Trail description:

Route / Itinerary:

  • Meet at Cypress at 7am on Saturday morning (early start to beat the heat)
  • Day 1: St. Marks Summit, Mount Unnecessary Ridge, pass by the Lions, James Peak
  • Expecting to camp overnight at Magnesia Meadows
  • Day 2: Pass Brunswick Mountain, Hat Pass, Deeks Lake
  • Take the new trail down to Porteau Cove
  • Possible bites and bevvies to follow

I would hope to start early both days to hike while the temperature is cooler.

  • We will need to shuffle a car(s) to the end of the trail (likely on Friday night) - I have two vehicles confirmed at the time of posting this trip
  • We will need to obtain day use passes (at 6am on Saturday)

These details will be worked out through the planning forum.

I have not done this route before (it's been on my bucket list for a while). That being said, I expect the hike to be strenuous, so you need to be in-shape and experienced with a heavy overnight pack.

Please bring:

  • Good hiking boots
  • Backcountry camping gear
  • Rope to hang your food with
  • 10 essentials
  • Lots of water
  • Funny jokes

I'll have some basic safety items including bear spray, emergency kit and a Garmin InReach.
