Participant Information

The plan is to leave Friday night and camp out in a wide-open clearing at the end of the North Creek road. It's a great place to camp with wonderful views of the mountains above the Pemberton Valley.  There is a variety of work to be done, but most of it requires cutting alder and annual vegetation.  There is lots of scope for hand tools such as clippers, shovels an picks, but it would be very helpful to have some folks who are familiar with running small chainsaws and gas-powered weed eaters with cutting blades at the end.  The primary goal will be to cut the annual vegetation which grows up along about 4 km of the trail which runs through slide paths.  By mid-July the trail will be a meter deep in ferns, skunk cabbage and nettles which is best removed with the weedeater.  There is also some alder that needs to be clipped back with hand tools and some work to be done on the trail bed with a pick and shovel.  Clearing this trail opens up access to the North Creek Cabin and a variety of hikes and mountaineering objectives from the cabin.  Without the trail clearing, few people will brave the underbrush, so your efforts will go a long way in opening up an area and relieving some of the pressure on other overcrowded trails.  What better way to make a beer at the end of the day taste that much better than by spending the day improving a trail.  It's car camping at its best.
