Trip Planning Questions

What long hikes / trips have you done recently?

Do you have all your camping gear to be self sufficient (e.g. pack, tent, cooking gear, pots, first aid, boots, rain gear, sleeping bag, gaiters, etc?

Can you smile and laugh in the rain?

How comfortable are you with a 25km hiking day?

Will you be sharing a tent, or tenting solo? Both are great.

Do you have a car and willing to drive?

Sunshine Coast trail adventure, starting at the top, at Sarah point, accessed via water taxi, and then hiking 3 days 2 nights to Powell River.  This is not a hike for beginner hikers. Participants should be fit and comfortable and experienced with overnight hiking.

High Level Itinerary

Day 0: Thursday 210PM Ferry from Horsehoe Bay to Langdale, drive to Earls Cove, ferry to Powell River. Camp in Lund, close to water taxi.

Day 1 - Water Taxi from Lund to Sarah Point at 945am, then hike 16km / 730m - Sarah Point to Manzanita Hut (incredible elevated views).  Be prepared to tent as the Hut will likely be occupied.

Day 2 - 25km / 700m - Manzinata Hut to Sliamon Lake (nice lake to camp by and swim after a long day)

Day 3 - 9km / 300m   Sliamon Lake to Powell River, Shingle Mill Pub, for a well deserved beer, then taxi back to Lund, then drive back to Vancouver via ferry to Earls cove from Powell River then ferry to Vancouver from Langdale.

Participants will need to pay share of camping fees, ferry(s), water taxi, and taxi back to Lund from Powell River.  Estimated costs depending on number of participants $120-$200.

This trip will run rain or shine and participants ought to be comfortable hiking and camping in whatever conditions arrive. Rain is likely.  All hiking is below snow line.  A light heart and sense of humour is mandatory.  Days are long and this is a demanding trip so pace will be catered to getting the job done safely and enjoying ourselves along the way. Early dawn start on Day 2 will be critical.  Slow to moderate pacing with hourly rest breaks.  No racing.
