This is a short trip for Chilcotin standards: 4 days including the drive. The idea is to hike a few of the long, earthy ridges of the Chilcotins and sleep in beautiful subalpine meadows. Here’s the plan:
Day 1: We’ll drive, drive, drive and then hike (9km) to the upper Taylor Creek Basin. Camp there.
Day 2: Circuit Eldorado Pass - Nea Peak - Windy Pass - Spruce Peak - Eldorado Meadows. Total around 16km with day packs.
Day 3: Backpacking from Taylor Creek Basin to Upper N. Cinnabar Meadows via Harris Ridge, Camel Pass and Ridge-o-Rama Trail with (maybe) a side trip to Taylor Peak (total ~10-13km).
Day 4: Hike down the N. Cinnabar Creek Trail to the road (8km) and drive back to Vancouver.
Notes:
- We’ll be driving the Hurley Road to get there.
- Bring the ten essentials. Be prepared as if you’d do this hike by yourself.
- I’m not a fast hiker, and we’ll hike at a moderate pace – but it’s still a fairly challenging trip.
- The area has grizzlies, horseflies, steep scree ascents and can have strong winds in the high ridges – just as most places we like.
- We’ll finish the hike ~5km away from the cars, so we may have to leave one car at the finishing point – we'll figure it out.
- Welcome aboard - let's have fun, breathe hard and enjoy the views. Fingers crossed for good weather and no forest fires!
