Mt Adams, at 12,276 ft, is second in height only to Mount Rainier in Washington state. While a non-technical route, the south spur ascends moderate snow slopes to the high summit. The route is strenuous and altitude may be a factor. Ice ax, crampons and possibly snowshoes are required.
Plan to leave Vancouver very early on Sunday for the 7+ hour drive to the trailhead. We will need to collect a Volcano Pass from the ranger station in Trout Lake. Then I expect around a 5 hour hike to our camp spot on the 'lunch counter'. The following day we will hike to the summit, and return to the cars.
Depending on our condition, we can either start the drive home or find accommodation nearby.
Previous experience on Washington volcanoes is preferred as is recent experience with strenuous long hiking days. Participants will be expected to participate in a few local hikes together prior to the trip.
Passport required.
