Do you ski? Meet at the Monument 83 cross-country ski parking lot. It is about 3 km east of Manning Park Resort on Highway 3. It's about 6 km hiking to where we'll begin cutting burned trees off the trail. The work zone is between about 6K and 8K, where the ski route to Chuwanten Mountain branches off. There are two log crossings and one shallow stream ford right after leaving the parking lot. There has been some work to improve the crossings but if there is heavy rain the river can come up dramatically and then it is not safe to cross. An alternate destination, should it be necessary, will be the Mount Kelly ski trail.
I will be in Manning Park so participants should arrange carpooling themselves and also bring your own tools. The club has a tool repository at Brian Sheffield's house in North Vancouver. He's got chainsaws and brush cutters. Qualified and/or competent tool operators are encouraged to arrange with Brian to pick up the tools beforehand and return them after the trip. Brian's phone number is 778 968-6353. Don't leave it to the last minute to arrange for tools.
There is also a hand tool repository at Blair Mitten's in West Vancouver. If you call beforehand, Blair can leave the requested tools in his carport for pick up. Blair's phone number is 604 922-0470 or cell 604 818-5503.
The kind of tools needed are chainsaws, brush cutters, tools for the saw and cutters, fuel and oil. Safety equipment such as chaps, heavy work gloves, safety goggles, hearing protection, and head lamp are also needed.
We need competent equipment operators for the trip. If you're not competent with power tools there is work throwing the cut logs off the trail and/or manually cutting branches with loppers.
Meeting at the parking lot at 9:00 AM. It is usually a two hour plus 45 minutes drive to Monument 83 parking lot from Coquitlam, driving near the speed limit.
