Hello, Snow Lovers,
You are invited to a fun-filled snow shelter event on Mt. Seymour. Depending on snow conditions, you can learn how to build a Fun, Safe Snow Cave or Quinzhee/Snow Trench Shelter.
All the fun and experiences you could wish for are packed into a single-day event. This will be a great learning experience for all levels of outdoor enthusiasts. It will be an event you will talk about for years and it could save your life! You can come as a group or an individual. Everyone will work together to build a variety of snow shelters, learn to light a fire in the winter, and have a great time.
The hike to our building site is just 15 minutes from the parking lot with about a 100m elevation gain.
Learn how to survive the night
An accident, emergency, injury, poor weather, or unstable avalanche conditions may cause you to spend the night in the backcountry.
A snow cave is a shelter constructed in the snow by hikers, climbers, winter recreational enthusiasts, and winter survivalists. It has thermal properties similar to an igloo and is particularly effective at protecting from wind as well as low temperatures.
Your combination of equipment and skills determines whether your night out will be mildly uncomfortable or a brutal epic. A snow cave heated with a candle from your survival kit will enable you to spend the night in relative comfort.
A properly made snow cave can be 0 °C (32 °F) or warmer inside, even when outside temperatures are −40 °C (−40 °F).
Leave no trace: I'd like to keep our nature clean, therefore I'll bring 2 toilet seats, garbage bags, toilet paper, snow saws, pipes, tarps etc.
We are going to build two outhouses, one for Ladies and one for Gentlemen, and we'll take all human waste from our campsite to the parking lot.
Leave your dog at home: Please do not bring your dog to this event.
Cost: $30 e-transfer per person. The trip runs snow/rain or shine.
The $30 covers expenses.
