Let's rehearse!
Pretend to prepare for a (hypothetical) long day outing that:
- starts early in the AM, and goes till late
- in the North Shore mountains, in mid-June, of a distance approximately 10km long and starts at 700m elevation, with an additional up/down climb of 400m, and is considered "difficult" terrain (recognizing this is a beginner group, but let's practice anyway).
- without reception
- with a 30% chance of inclement weather
Please prepare to bring:
- all gear you would bring for this hypothetical trip
- the trip plan you might leave for someone at home
- the research you might do in advance
- other preparation/proactive measures you might take, risk assessment, questions to consider
We will discuss the 10 essentials, practice making a trip plan, and compare and share what we brought, talk about possible scenarios.
This is not a test - the idea is to help us to get acquainted, practice communicating in a gentle environment, ask questions, and share our knowledge before we head out as a group together.
