Participant Information

Let's use a popular hike to practice our planning, packing, hiking, and getting to know each other before tackling longer/harder objectives. This is a second opportunity for the mentee group to use an local hike to practice packing for a more challenging day hike, planning for the weather, and using some of the items in our kit. The idea of this hike is to practice and get to know each other, practice communication and basic navigation, rather than a challenge. It is a popular trail with water access at the bottom, reasonable signage, washrooms, and reception for parts of the trail. The trip will run if misty, light rain, or shine, and will be cancelled with extreme rain/winds that would cause the Gondola to be shut down, or would otherwise present a hazard.

The intention is to go both up AND down the BCMC at a safe, reasonable pace that feels comfortable for the group. Depending on the weather, fatigue, and timing, we may opt to use the Gondola to go down. This is where we will practice our self-assessment, communication, and group cohesion since many people find the descent challenging. If you are considering learning to hike with poles, this is a good opportunity to try.
