The Ungulates Traverse is a stunning 3-day alpine ridge hike through the Ungulate peaks at the head of the Coldwater River in the Coquihalla, as described in John Baldwin's Coast Mountain High Routes book. This 29km loop route includes 2300 m of elevation gain and offers panoramic views, dramatic ridgelines, scenic tarns for swimming, and several summit options. The terrain is classic Coquihalla: open granite slabs, heather meadows, minimal bushwhacking, and no need for a car shuttle.

This is a trip for experienced backpackers with good fitness and who have scrambling confidence. I'm expecting fairly long days with route-finding, slab travel, and occasional exposure. While not a technical climb, the route includes sections of Class 3-4 scrambling and one optional rope-assisted pitch. Comfort on rock and with carrying an overnight pack through alpine terrain is essential.
If you’re into high routes, light scrambling, swimming in alpine tarns, and classic Coquihalla scenery, let me know if you're keen! Dates are a bit flexible depending on interest.
