Participant Information

Are you looking for a totally unique climbing experience this summer?

BCMC members are invited to experience a one-of-a-kind guided tree climbing tour with Cultivara Tree Tours—now offering an exclusive 10% discount on the recommended tour prices to Club members and their guests throughout the summer.

Tours take place at UBC Botanical Garden, where you'll climb fixed lines high into the tree canopy, using modern climbing equipment. Reach heights of 20-50 meters, soak in incredible views, learn more about trees, and experience the forest from a rare and thrilling perspective.

No climbing experience is required—just a willingness to try something new. All tours are guided by certified arborists and include all climbing and safety equipment. Tours are suitable for adventurers 8-10+ years old.

Tour Options and Pricing (BCMC members and their guests receive 10% off these rates):

Choose the tour that suits your style and energy level:

 Canopy Intro (45 minutes, $30/person)

A shorter, no-fitness option ideal for those curious to try tree climbing without committing to a full expedition. Guests are gently lifted into the lower canopy (60 ft) using our ‘Canopy Elevator’, discuss what they see with their guide, then independently rappel back to the ground. Great for beginners or those with limited time.

Canopy Expedition (2-3 hours, $120/person)
Our signature tour. Climb up to 50 meters into the upper canopy for panoramic views, time to explore the treetops, and a deeper dive into tree biology and ecology. Learn more about professional arborist and industrial rope access climbing systems, and fixed-rope climbing techniques. Some fitness required.

Expedition Lift (1.5 hours, $100/person)
Same incredible heights as the Canopy Expedition, but made accessible with battery-powered ascenders. Ideal for those who prefer less physical exertion but still want to experience the upper canopy. No fitness required.

Sunset Expedition (2-3 hours, $180 person)
An evening version of our Canopy Expedition—experience golden light filtering through the forest as the day winds down, with a descent in partial darkness by headlamp. A peaceful, unforgettable way to end your day. Some fitness required.

Garden admission is not included in the recommended tour price and must be purchased separately online or easily at the front gate ($11/person; $26.5/family). A visit to the Garden pairs perfectly with your tree climbing adventure, offering beautiful walking trails, diverse ecosystems, and world-class plant collections that deepen your appreciation for the forest from the ground up.

 Tour Details:

  • Location: UBC Botanical Garden (6804 SW Marine Dr, Vancouver)
  • Duration: 45 min to 3 hours depending on tour
  • Tour Availability: Tours generally offered Friday-Sunday throughout the summer. Weekday availability exists upon request.
  • Group Size: 1–4 participants per tour
  • Experience-Based Pricing: Pay the recommended rate up front, then adjust your payment after your climb based on your experience and budget—no pressure.

Weather & Cancellation Policy:

  • These tours runs in light rain or shine. If unsafe climbing conditions are anticipated (heavy rain, heavy wind, storms, etc.), participants will be contacted in advance and offered to reschedule or a full refund.
  • Cancellations can be made for a full refund up to 7 days before tour start time. Tours can be rescheduled without penalty up to 72 hours before tour start time, subject to wider tour availability.

These guided tours will:

  • Show you more about the equipment used in arboriculture and rope access work, and basic operation of equipment to safely ascend and descend a fixed line under supervision.
  • Teach you more about trees, with the aim of inspiring greater care and conservation of our forests.
  • Provide a totally unique and unforgettable experience. It doesn’t get much more ‘BC’ than climbing tall trees with ocean views.

These guided tours will not:

  • Teach you the skills required to climb trees independently, or provide formal training or instruction. Recreational tree climbing can be dangerous without the proper experience and understanding of the equipment and hazards involved.

Explore the canopy. Challenge your perspective. See the forest from a whole new height.
