Participant Information

We'll drive up the Hurley and take Hope Creek road, which by recent accounts is in good shape - high clearance is desirable, but 4x4 isn't mandatory. We'll setup camp by Opal Lake and hike up Chipmunk mountain through beautiful meadows and scree, which involves some easy scrambling.

This is a one night trip - we'll be back on Sunday.

Some more details:

  • Car-to-summit elevation gain: ~950m
  • We'll have a break at Opal Lake to rest and setup tents (if time permits)
  • We'll walk at a moderate pace. Please stick together - there's routefinding and and it's grizzly country
  • Be bear aware - bear spray and a proper bear hang are important, if you don't have a bear vault or similar
  • Expect some bushwhacking and mosquitoes
  • I'm assuming you are prepared for backpacking (gear and previous experience). Feel free to contact me if you have questions
