Trip Planning Questions

1. Do you have the required and recommended gear?

2. Do you have a preference regarding access (gondola vs drive)?

Participant Information

Last chance before snow! It's a mix of rain and snow up there right now so time is running out!

Maybe, maybe not but this repeat has been on my list all year. Weather forecast is sun and cloud on Sunday and sun balls on Monday.

This trip is approximately 18km round trip from the Gondola upper base. 1230m of ascent and takes 9-10hrs round trip at a moderate pace. There is a bit of snow climbing, scrambling including low 5th class but for short periods. There certainly is exposure on a number of sections, so know your comfort zones.

Required gear is the 10 essentials, food and water. A helmet is highly recommended, an ice axe and microspikes may be handy. I'll have a satellite communicator and first aid stuff. Hiking boots recommended.

I'm not a runner but am steady at a moderate pace hiking.

We have the option of starting either from a gondola ride up or driving up the FSR and adding 20 minutes from the gate. I have a 4x4 and can take 4 others. Can discuss in the planning forum. Meet at St David's at 0730.
