Participant Information

Day hike to to "Hat Hilton" hut, a well known "secret" (not so secret) hut above Lions Bay. You will not find this hut on Alltrails but it is shown on Gaia. Will share gpx tracks when avail. The hut has a wood fireplace and we can make a fire to warm up.  Carpooling to be arranged in the group chat with several options: p/u Renfrew skytrain station, OR meet at Superstore parking lot (Grandview Highway OR 333 Seymour Blvd, North Van), OR meet at St David's church, OR meet at Trailhead. Approx 16 km trip out-and-back with great views at certain points.  Likely microspikes sufficient for majority of trail, bring snowshoes too. Plan is: hike to hut, hang out and have a meal, possibly explore the area around the hut based on group preference, hike out likely in darkness.  We will be accompanied by the awesome Eileen Bistrisky, a seasoned snowshoe mentor who has been to the hut before. Eileen may even be able to secure us rock-star parking at her friend's place hear the trailhead.  Be prepared for rain, bring 10 essentials, snacks/food for a meal, headlamp essential, spikes & snowshoes. I will investigate whether we will need to bring a stove. I will have my 7 pax minivan to offer rides. Aim to be at trailhead and start hiking between 10:30-11 AM, plan to hike out and arrive back at trailhead around 8 PM. Please be flexible on return timing depending on the speed of the group and how long we stay at the hut.
