Almost 60km round trip, 3300m elevation gain, backcountry as remote as it gets. And bugs. Lots of bugs.

You get to climb the 4th highest and most remote volcano in the state. Excellent trails, simple glaciated terrain and low angle scrambling. But lots of walking.

We will meet early on day 1, so probably best to plan staying overnight nearby in the community of Darrington. Can discuss front country campgrounds or crowding into motel rooms.

Due to the time spent together, chemistry has to be good, so a group hike or two will be mandatory. Maybe an easy overnight... A high level of endurance fitness will be required.

Planning on a group of four but possibly open to 6. There are no backcountry permits required, but we will need to keep our footprint small.

Minimum gear:

  • High volume pack, tent, pad and sleeping bag all in good shape
  • Broken-in boots in excellent condition. Will be inspected before the trip
  • Hiking pole(s), helmet, ice axe and crampons, crevasse rescue gear
  • Stove, first aid kit, adequate light weight waterproof and insulating layers

As always, weather dependent. And as always, no summit fever. Safety #1, Fun #2, Objective #3
